Vietnam Veteran to Speak at MCC on Main about Military Service and Entrepreneurship

Ron Winter AuthorRonald Winter, a decorated Vietnam veteran, writer, public relations executive, college professor, public speaker and award winning journalist, will appear at Manchester Community College Arts and Education Center – also known as MCC on Main — on May 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. The event is sponsored by the college’s Viscogliosi Entrepreneurship Center (VEC).

Winter will lead a seminar on how military training can help create successful business ventures and inspire veterans to follow suit. He will discuss how military experience is conducive to running a business and explain how veterans have more management and operations skills than they realize. Topics to be covered: having a plan, financing, honing skills, gathering knowledge and expertise, and gaining confidence. The event is free and open to the public; registration is encouraged. Winter served as a U.S. Marine helicopter crewman and machine gunner, flying 300 missions and earning commendations that include 15 Air Medals, Combat Aircrew Wings and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. In 2004, he was honored by the Library of Congress’ Voices of War Veterans History Project.

He is also the author of two non-fiction books, Masters of the Art, A Fighting Marine’s Memoir of Vietnam and Granny Snatching, about how a 92-year old widow fought the courts and her family to win her freedom.

He holds undergraduate degrees in electrical engineering and English literature and was the recipient of several prestigious journalism awards. He was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize while working as a reporter and editor at the Hartford Courant and the Manchester Journal Inquirer. Currently he is a director for Michael J. London & Associates public relations firm in Trumbull, Conn., specializing in media relations and political strategy.
