MCC presses on with 75-31 victory over Springfield Tech
MANCHESTER, CT – Jaslynn Canino (East Hartford) and Erika Murphy (Torrington) had 17 points apiece as Manchester Community College improved to 5-0 with a 75-31 victory over Springfield Tech (2-7) Tuesday night at the Great Path Academy gym.
The Cougars held a 36-25 lead at the half, but opened the game up with a 26 point run at the start of the second half. Ericka Segay (Bloomfield) had 10 points and nine rebounds for MCC. Meisha Tuitt led Springfield with 13 points.
The Cougars pressured Springfield’s backcourt and played most of the second half with their starters on the bench. The Lady Rams had just six players while the Cougars used all twelve of their players.
“We came out with a great deal of intensity,” MCC Head Coach Robert Turner, Jr. said. “We played very well and everybody executed their plays very well. And that press really did a number on them.”
Murphy had nine rebounds and was five for six from the free-throw line while Canino pulled down eight rebounds. Callie Tambling (Manchester) had three, three-pointers in the second half.
“We picked it up in the second half,” Turner said. “We didn’t play well in the first half – we had 12 turnovers and in the second half we only had five.” MCC outscored STCC by a 39-6 margin over the final 20 minutes of the game.
MCC travels to Worcester, MA on Thursday for a 6PM game and Franklin, MA on Saturday for a 1 PM game. The Cougars return to Great Path on Monday, December 7th to host UCONN-Avery Point.
