UConn’s Joelle Murchison to Address MCC Graduates at Community College’s 53rd Commencement Exercises
Manchester, Conn. (April 27, 2017) – Joelle Murchison, associate vice president and chief diversity officer at the University of Connecticut will deliver the 53rd Commencement Address to Manchester Community College’s class of 2017. The Commencement Ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m. sharp at the Bicentennial Band Shell on the campus lawn.
A resident of East Hartford, Murchison serves as UConn’s main strategist responsible for guiding efforts to define, assess and promote diversity, inclusion and educational and employment opportunity. The theme of her commencement address will be “Building Connections, Building a Future.”
Murchison served two terms on the board of directors of Leadership Greater Hartford and worked 10 years as a diversity trainer with the Anti-Defamation League’s A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE® Institute. She is also the recipient of many awards, including the Hall of Fame Award from the Women in Business Summit.
Murchison holds a degree in public policy and educational studies from Brown University, a master of education degree from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education and a master of science degree in communication management from Syracuse University. Prior to joining UConn, she was a vice president of enterprise diversity and inclusion at The Travelers in Hartford where she helped develop the framework of the company’s diversity focus and led the implementation of the company’s diversity strategy.
