Santiago Meira Named NJCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Player of the Week
MANCHESTER, Conn. (Sept. 26) – Manchester Community College sophomore midfielder Santiago Meira (AVON) has been named the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for Sept. 16-22, the sanctioning body announced Wednesday.
Meira became the program’s all-time assist leader in a 20-0 home victory over MassBay Community College on Sept. 22. He totaled three goals and a career-high seven assists in the 20-goal win. Meira has recorded 29 assists in 25 career games.
Through Sept. 25, Meira ranked sixth in NJCAA Division III men’s soccer with 25 points (7 goals, a team-high 11 assists).
The 6-foot Meira had four goals and seven assists during the nomination period. He scored a second-half goal in the Cougars’ 2-0 win at the Community College of Rhode Island on Sept. 18.
Meira has joined former forward Alverson Sargusingh, current Southern Connecticut State University senior forward Colin Jackson (HARTFORD), former midfielder Jacob Marcus and current University of Hartford junior forward Andreas Blamo (WEST HARTFORD) as NJCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Player of the Week winners from MCC since 2004.
