Monroe College bats too heavy for MCC

Manchester, CT – (April 28, 2009) Mathieu Beauchesne (Quebec, QC) and Marco Moreno (Miami, FL) led Monroe College’s 21 hit, 14 run assault in a 14-4 win over MCC Tuesday afternoon in Manchester.

Moreno led the Monroe College Mustangs with six hits in six at-bats, including three doubles and four RBI’s. Beauchesne added three hits on four at-bats while scoring five runs and driving in another.

Vin Sommo (Middlefield) hit his sixth homerun of the season with Dave Alexander (Torrington) aboard in the fifth inning. Herb Coggeshall (Coventry) went 3 for 4 with a stolen base. Andrew Kravontka (Manchester) was 2 for 4 with a run scored.

MCC’s starting pitcher Tyler Wenz (Ogdensburg, NJ) went four innings (2 strikeouts, 2 walks, 8 hits, 3 runs, 1 HBP) before giving way to the bullpen.

Juan Bisono (New Britain) rounded the bases on a two error play in the 7th to score the Cougars fourth and final run of the day.

Pedro Perez (Miami, FL) went eight innings deep, striking out four and allowing only four runs (two earned) on route to his second win of the season.

Monroe College (24-12-1), the reigning Region XV Division I champions, played MCC on March 31 to an 8-8 tie. MCC (20-14-1) had won 6 out of 7 contests before today’s loss. The Cougars have two more games against the Region XV Mustangs (Sunday, May 3) before their final regular season game against Region XXI Division III rival Holyoke CC Monday afternoon.
