Men’s Soccer Team Edges Holyoke; Women Still Looking for First Win

MANCHESTER, CT – Anibal Saenz (Newington) and Tyler Jones (Vernon) each scored as Manchester CC (7-5) beat Holyoke CC 2-1in a Region 21, Division III game Wednesday afternoon.

Saenz scored his fourth goal of the season off a Kwasi Boateng (East Hartford) pass 12:22 into the contest and Jones’ eighth goal of the season gave the Cougars a 2-0 lead at the 32 minute mark. Todd Langdon put Holyoke (3-5-1) on the board with 4:26 remaining in the half and the teams played a spirited and scoreless second half.

Steve German (Coventry) had 17 saves and an assist on the deciding goal while his counterpart, Jordon Krajowski, made19 saves. MCC improves to 7-1 in Region 21, division play.

Holyoke CC 6 Manchester CC 0

HOLYOKE, MA – Lauren Jaskula scored a pair of goals to help lead Holyoke CC (12-1-1) to a 6-0 win over Manchester CC (0-9) Wednesday in Holyoke.

Holyoke beat Manchester 16-0 on September 12 in Manchester, but struggled to find their offense early on their home field while building a 2-0 first half lead. Goalkeeper Danielle Hebert (Mansfield) made 18 saves for MCC.

“In the first half we played very well,” MCC head coach Jeremy Wilson said. ”We kept the ball a little bit and worked out of some difficult spots.”

Wilson, who has seen his team make “big progress” over the last month, noted that Arianna Rivera (Manchester) and Kaile Doerfler (Tolland) played very well in the defensive backfield and midfield respectively.
