Medical Office Assistant Certification Course Helps Students Train for a Career by Thanksgiving

Manchester, Conn. (September 9, 2015) – Manchester Community College Continuing Education Division is offering a Medical Office Assistant Certification course during the Fall semester that can help students quickly gain job-ready skills. Classes begin Tuesday, October 13 and run through Monday, November 23, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

A medical office assistant provides support within a variety of healthcare settings. MCC’s program teaches not only basic medical office skills but also exposes students to MediSoft, the electronic medical records software used by many of the area’s medical practices.

A free information session will be offered in advance of the course, on Wednesday, September 16, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. to provide the opportunity to ask questions and obtain additional information before registering for the 27-session, 135-hour program.

The Medical Office Assistant program is designed as introductory preparation for an entry-level administrative position in a medical office, hospital or long-term care facility and covers relevant topics on medical terminology and records management, as well as basic office skills, such as keyboarding, word processing, and business communications (written, oral and electronic). The course fee is $1,550 (refer to CRN 31635 for registration).

Students who successfully complete the program will have the opportunity to receive up to six college credits that can be applied to an associate degree in the field.

The Continuing Education division offers other Allied Health certification courses upcoming in the Fall semester, including Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) and Pharmacy Technician Certification.

The CNA course runs 20 sessions, Monday through Friday, October 19 through November 23, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. (refer to CRN 31843). The 120-hour course prepares students with entry-level skills needed to work as a CNA in long-term care facilities, hospitals, clinics and home health agencies. The course fee is $999.

The Pharmacy Technician Certification course runs 10 Mondays and 10 Wednesdays, September 14 through November 23, 6 to 9 p.m. (refer to CRN 31773). The comprehensive 60-hour course prepares students for an entry-level position in a community hospital, long-term care setting, or pharmacy. The course fee is $825.
