McGowan Drives Cougars Over Eastern

WILLIMANTIC, CT – South Windsor’s James McGowan had a pair of doubles, four rbi’s and two walks as MCC beat Eastern Connecticut State University’s sub-varsity 8-6 Tuesday night in Willimantic.

McGowan drove in MCC’s second run with a double in the third inning and cleared the bases with a three-run double in the fourth.

MCC (10-8-1) held a 7-0 lead through five innings, then allowed Eastern (4-7) to creep back in the game with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings, three in the eighth and one in the ninth.

MCC starter Mike Quagliaroili (Windsor Locks) worked three shutout innings and Ryan Carroll (Newington) pitched the middle three (3 hits, 1 run, 2K) to pick up the victory. Tyler Wenz (Ogdensburg, NJ) pitched the ninth and earned his third save of the season. Steve Aloisa (Windsor Locks) struck out a pair over two innings.

Catcher A. J. Lowers (Newington) was on base four times, scored three runs, doubled, drove in a run and stole a base. Juan Bisono (New Britain) was 2 for 5 with a double and two runs scored.

Michael Holmes had seven strikeouts over four innings of relief for Eastern. MCC leads the season series over Eastern 3-1.
