Manchester, CT (October 26, 2011) Hans Weiss was honored on Tuesday, October 25th for his long–time support of Manchester Community College at the second annual Hall of Fame Reception. He has contributed to the growth of the College and its educational programs, and has provided financial assistance to students interested in pursuing their college education. Weiss is an impressionistic, international artist in oil, watercolor, pen, ink, and pencil and has been drawing and painting all of his life.

The MCC Foundation Hall of Fame Award is an annual award given to a distinguished donor, a community activist or alumni for service to the College.

In 2004, Weiss pledged $100,000 to the Manchester Community College Foundation to establish the Hans Weiss Arts Scholarship. In recognition of this generous gift, the MCC art gallery located in the SBM Charitable Foundation building was renamed the “Hans Weiss Newspace Gallery.” The art gallery hosts monthly exhibits of work by local and international artists, both acclaimed and emerging, as well as student art and pieces from outside artists.

The MCC Foundation Hall of Fame Reception was held in the Hans Weiss Newspace Gallery in the SBM Charitable Foundation Building. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the arts at MCC and the Hans Weiss Scholarship.
