MCC Women’s Soccer Team Remains Undefeated at Home
MANCHESTER, Conn. (Sept. 15) – Freshman forward Lauren Alvarez (GLASTONBURY) had two goals and sophomore midfielder Seana Pollard (GLASTONBURY) one goal and a career-high three assists as the Manchester Community College women’s soccer team shut out Dean College 6-0 in a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XXI game Saturday afternoon at on-campus McCormick Athletic Complex.
The Cougars (2-3 overall) have won their two home games this season, outscoring their opponents 12-0. MCC defeated Bunker Hill Community College 6-0 in its home opener on Sept. 8.
Manchester Community College freshman goalkeepers Nicole Morehouse (TOLLAND) and Kyle Roncaioli (WEST HARTFORD) combined on their second shutout of the season. Morehouse made three saves in 70 minutes and scored her first career goal on a 7-yard shot to the lower left at 89:00.
Alvarez scored on a penalty kick to the lower right (17:00) and on a low, 10-yard shot to the middle of the net (68:01). She has team highs with six goals (all in her last three games) and 13 points.
The Cougars led 2-0 in the first half on sophomore midfielder Katelyn Randlov’s (COLCHESTER) first goal of the season and on Alvarez’ first goal of the game. Randlov made a 6-yard, chest-high shot to the left side at 8:08.
MCC freshman back Brittany Finger (ENFIELD), Alvarez, Pollard and Morehouse each scored a second-half goal. Finger made a 14-yard shot to the lower left (63:28) and Pollard a 10-yard shot to the lower left (85:00). Finger has recorded at least one point in each of her last three games.
Pollard, a 2006 second-team NJCAA Division III All-Region XXI midfielder, has 27 points (10 goals, 7 assists) in 14 career games. She set her previous career high of two assists against Briarwood College in Manchester Community College’s 8-0 win on Oct. 23, 2006.
The Cougars outshot the Bulldogs (1-3), 30-5. Dean College freshman goalkeeper Ruth Castro and sophomore goalkeeper Tessa Belardo each made seven saves in 45 minutes of action. Castro allowed two first-half goals and Belardo four second-half goals.
MCC hosts Hesser College in a 1 p.m. game Sunday at on-campus McCormick Athletic Complex.
