MCC Students Travel to New Orleans to Help with the Continued Rebuilding Efforts

Manchester, CT – (June 19, 2007) . . . . For most college students, the first weeks of summer break is about relaxing, hanging out with friends or finding a part-time job. But for a group of MCC students, their time was spent helping with the continued rebuilding efforts in New Orleans. The students are members of the MCC chapter of Habitat for Humanity. They returned to New Orleans after being there two years ago to help families recover from the damage left behind by Hurricane Katrina.

Six students and six faculty members spent ten days working with the local Habitat for Humanity in the Musician’s Village in the Lower 9th Ward of St. Bernard Parish. “Over the past two years that we haven’t been there, it has changed a little, but it’s still not the same good old New Orleans,” stated Ali Smith, co-president of the MCC Habitat for Humanity chapter. Smith shared her experience on a recent interview on Fox 61.
