MCC Students Raise Funds and Collect Food Donations for MACC
MCC students who work at the college’s radio station, ICE Radio/1620AM, ran a drive to raise money and donations of food and clothing for Manchester Area Conferences of Churches (MACC) charities.
The students worked with faculty advisor Communication Professor Albert Kim to reach out to fellow students, as well as MCC faculty and staff who generously donated over four days to help feed local hungry families and support local homeless veterans.
“Our fundraising efforts were publicized on-air, via flyers around campus, and by setting up a table in front of the Cafeteria and in the SBM Charitable Foundation building rotunda during the Student Activities-sponsored HolidayFest, which gave them visibility to various student clubs,” Kim said.
The ICE students made a presentation of more than ten boxes and bags of non-perishable canned goods, socks, baby food and other items. In addition, they raised $200 in cash. The students made a presentation last week to Beth Stafford, MACC’s executive director and Meaghan Sprague, the community relations manager.
“This is the first year that ICE Radio has collected specifically for MACC charities,” Kim said. “We have also in the past partnered with other groups to sponsor campus-wide fundraisers between Thanksgiving and Christmas. In recent years, it’s been the Veteran’s Club on campus, for whom we’d raise money and donations of personal-care items to put into a package for a either a student serving abroad or for a student’s unit still abroad.”
MACC will specifically reach out to homeless veterans with the donations that the ICE students helped collect this year, according to Kim.
