MCC Students Participate in Study for National Center on Education and the Economy

Manchester, Connecticut ( May 31, 2012)..Students at Manchester Community College were selected to participate in a study for the National Center on Education and the Economy (NCEE) during the 2012 spring semester.

The NCEE was looking for assistance with the Study on College Readiness. The purpose of the project was to determine high school course completion grades that students need in order to be successful in college. Seventy- four students from Manchester Community College participated in the study and were rewarded with a small stipend and a chance to enter a drawing for a new Ipad. To be in the drawing a student had to achieve a certain threshold score. Fourteen of the MCC students were rewarded with new Ipads.

The MCC Dean of Student Affairs, G. Duncan Harris, facilitated the College’s participation in the study. According to Dean Harris, “One of our college learning goals is intellectual and practical skill development. Activities like this facilitate this learning outcome. Participation in studies of this type provides students with first-hand knowledge of what they can expect as they continue their studies at the baccalaureate level and the type of work that may be required for certain professions.”

The National Center on Education and the Economy was created in 1988 to analyze the economic and educational scene to identify the best concepts for American education policy and present proposals for changes in the education system to the American public.

Students of any age who possess the desire to pursue higher education are welcome at Manchester Community College. MCC is proud of its academic excellence, new facilities, flexible schedules, small classes,, low tuition and faculty with both academic and “real world” credentials. The College offers over 60 programs, transfer options, financial aid and scholarships, as well as access to baccalaureate degrees through guaranteed admissions programs with several universities.
