MCC Students Donate Time and Talents to Support Empty Bowls Project

Ceramics students in Manchester Community College’s Visual Fine Arts program have been working on their own time for the past month to create a series of special handmade bowls for the 17th Annual Empty Bowls Project to be held this Saturday, October 25, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Empty Bowls Project is Foodshare of Greater Hartford’s annual fundraiser to help feed the hungry. It will be held on the MCC campus in the Culinary Arts Center.
Some 100 bowls have been thrown, fired and glazed by advanced ceramics students in preparation for the event. In addition, on the day of the event, MCC culinary students are also preparing breads and other food items to go with the simple menu of soup, beverages and desserts, and they will provide service during the meal. Other MCC volunteers will also participate.
Admission to the event is a $15 donation per person. It includes the meal. All proceeds raised at the event will benefit Foodshare, the regional food bank for Hartford and Tolland counties, and support its mission of combating hunger for an estimated 128,000 people, including 50,000 children, in the greater Hartford community.
In exchange for their donations, guests keep the handcrafted bowl as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world.
