MCC Student Recipient of the Phi Theta Kappa Leaders of Promise Scholarship

Manchester, Conn., – (August 17, 2009)…Manchester Community College student Tommy Garcia, of Oakdale, is a recipient of the 2009 Phi Theta Kappa Leaders of Promise Scholarship. Thirty Phi Theta Kappa members from 21 states have been named recipients of this award. Each student received a $1,000 scholarship to further their associate degree education.

The Leaders of Promise Scholarship Program provides new Phi Theta Kappa members with financial resources to help defray educational expenses while enrolled at a an associate degree college. The program also provides opportunities and encourages students to assume leadership roles by participating in Society programs.

“The Leaders of Promise Scholarship funds provided represent an investment in human potential,” explained Rod A. Risley, Phi Theta Kappa Executive Director. “Our objective is to provide the resources and programs that will result in the emergence of strong leaders.”

Phi Theta Kappa’s mission is to encourage the academic achievement of associate degree-granting college students and provide opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in honors, leadership, service and fellowship programming.

Students of any age who possess the desire to pursue higher education are welcome at Manchester Community College.
