MCC splits double-header sweeps

On Friday afternoon, the MCC baseball team dropped a pair of games to Brookdale CC in Lincroft, NJ by 10-4 and 10-2 scores.

Saturday afternoon the Cougars regrouped and beat Adirondack CC 14-3 in the first game to snap a four-game losing streak, then beat the host team 14-0 in game two.

Sophomore Dave Alexander (Torington)hit three homeruns over the weekend and Steve Simon (Middlefield), who has not allowed an earned run over 20 2/3 innings this season, picked up his first win in 2009.

Peter Burgio (Bolton) returned to lineup after missing three games with ilness and had eight hits in 11 weekend at-bats including three doubles, four runs scored and four driven in. Vin Sommo (Clinton) hit a solo homerun in the first game on Saturday.

MCC (6-5) will take three separate road trips this week – to Westchester, NY (Monroe College)on Tuesday; to Brentwood, NY on Wednesday (Suffolk CC- Grant) and to Willimantic, CT on Thursday (Eastern Connecticut State University sub varsity)on Thursday. All three trips will feature one, nine-inning, non-Region 21 game.

Sunday’s (3/29)scheduled doubleheader against ECSU’s sub varsity in Manchester was postponed. Make-up date and site is to be determined. The Cougars host Northern-Essex on Saturday (4/4) for a pair of Region 21, Division III games starting at noon. The following day, Suffolk CC – Selden travels to Manchester for a pair of non-region games starting at noon.
