MCC Professor Receives International Phi Theta Kappa Award

Manchester, CT – (June 18, 2009) . . . Patrick Sullivan, professor of English and advisor of the Alpha Upsilon Alpha chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Manchester Community College, recently received the Distinguished Chapter Advisor award at the 2009 Phi Theta Kappa International Convention.

Phi Theta Kappa is an international honor society for two-year colleges that recognizes and encourages academic achievement. The society is comprised of more than 1,250 chapters, making it the largest honor society serving two-year colleges. Membership is based primarily upon academic achievement. The organization offers a myriad of opportunities for scholarships, intellectual enrichment and personal development through programs based on the society’s hallmarks.

Sullivan, of Canterbury, has played an integral role in the success of the Alpha Upsilon Alpha chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at MCC. “Pat Sullivan has been the lifeblood of MCC’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter since it was founded in 1991,” stated Elaine Wiatr, facilities scheduler and Phi Theta Kappa advisor at MCC. “He demonstrates the qualities of a servant-leader as he works to foster communication, mutual understanding, and teamwork among the chapter members while developing leadership skills in every person he engages. He was my mentor as a student member and continues to be my mentor as an advisor for the chapter.”
