AAC&U is the leading national association concerned with the quality, vitality and public standing of undergraduate liberal education. Dr. Glickman is one of six new directors unanimously elected at the January members’ meeting. The new directors will serve two-year terms and join five other board members who were elected to second terms.

Dr. Glickman is pleased to be part of AAC&U’s governance. “It is especially exciting for me to be joining the board as the organization launches into its second century,” she said. “It is an honor to be part of a far-reaching exploration of the connections between the country’s global future and of the changes needed in our higher education system to drive equitable access to high-quality learning for the millions of students hungry for opportunities for a better life.”

In her capacity as an educational leader and new member of the board, Dr. Glickman was also named to the AAC&U Presidents’ Trust, a leadership group of 100 college and university presidents that provides visible and vocal national leadership for liberal education. All college presidents, chancellors and CEOs on the AAC&U board automatically become members of the Trust.

Dr. Glickman was named the fifth president of Manchester Community College on June 30, 2008. Previously, she was vice president for teaching, learning and student development at Elgin Community College, a large comprehensive community college west of Chicago.

Prior to her appointment at Elgin, Dr. Glickman was associate provost and assistant provost at the University of Baltimore, an urban, upper division, graduate and professional university, one of 13 institutions in the University of Maryland system. During her career in higher education, she has served as dean of the college at Maryland Institute College of Art, executive director for curriculum development and evaluation at Harford Community College, assistant to the vice president for academic affairs at Baltimore City College, assistant dean at the University of Baltimore School of Law, and as a tenured faculty member at the Essex Community College (now a campus of the Community Colleges of Baltimore County).

Her contributions to higher education include service to the College Board’s Community College President’s Advisory Panel; the American Council on Education’s Commission on Advancement of Racial and Ethnic Equity; the American Association of Community Colleges Commission on Research, Technology, and Emerging Trends; and the Council for Resource Development-Executive Institute for Fundraising in Community Colleges.

Her community service includes the Greater Hartford Arts Council; Corporator for Rockville Bank; Corporator of Eastern Connecticut Health Network, Manchester Chamber of Commerce, and Hartford Hospital.

Last year, she was named first vice president of the Greater Hartford Arts Council board of directors. In April 2012, Hartford Business Journal named Dr. Glickman one of eight remarkable women in business.

Dr. Glickman holds a bachelor of fine arts from the Maryland Institute College of Art, a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Education; and a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, College Park.
