MCC Plans Open House for Students Interested in September Precision Machining Program
Manchester, CT – (July 23, 2013)… To provide information to students interested in the Precision Machining program at Manchester Community College, there will be an open house on campus Thursday, August 8, 2013, from 4 to 6 p.m. The open house will begin in the Learning Resource Center (LRC) building, room A108, and will include a tour of the Precision Machining facilities.
The open house is free, although reservations are encouraged. Call Mary Boileau at 860-512-2813 or email mboileau@manchestercc.edu by August 5. Students will be provided with information about upcoming Precision Machining classes, which begin Thursday,
September 12.
The program prepares students for entry-level CNC operator positions. Students can also take additional coursework aimed at preparing them for positions as Quality Control Inspectors.
“Manufacturers are looking for dedicated, skilled employees with the ability and preparation to succeed in this field. There is a severe shortage in the state for qualified individuals to fill these slots,” points out Ed Dombroski, Coordinator of Manufacturing Programs in Continuing Education at MCC. “In this 600-hour, non-credit Precision Machining Certificate Program, students receive a thorough preparation for a career in manufacturing. Classes are held in the classroom and in the college machine shop.” Dombroski adds, “Internship opportunities may be arranged for qualified students, and frequently these internships lead to full-time positions.”
Students who enroll in the MCC program this September can expect to finish the full 600-hour program by the end of April 2014. Curricula, designed with input from local manufacturers, include workplace communication, computer applications, measurement, bench work, manufacturing math, shop safety, blueprint reading and interpretation, GD&T, introduction to quality control, Lean manufacturing, and setup/operation of conventional machines and CNCs.
Along with instruction and hands-on practice, students also participate in tours of local manufacturing companies. Those students who have attained required skills are provided internship opportunities, making their educational experience an exceptional preparation for launching a career.
The MCC program is funded in part by CT-MET, a federal grant that picks up the costs of the first 300 hours of the program for students who are unemployed or underemployed. Find directions to campus at Driving Directions to MCC, or call 860-512-2800.
