MCC Offers Spring Music Courses in Credit-Free Programs
Manchester Community College Credit-Free Programs offers classes this spring that will strike a chord with everyone interested in music.
Upcoming courses in the Spring 2014 catalog provide lessons in stringed instruments, vocals, ukulele and harmonica. These are just some examples of the Credit-Free Programs Spring courses. For the full catalog, go to Continuing Education.
Register now for these and other music courses:
- Beginning Strings II: Violin, Viola or Cello, starting Wednesday, February 19, from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. This new course, which builds on MCC Credit-Free Programs’ “Beginning Strings: Violin, Viola or Cello” introductory course, or students’ equivalent knowledge, continues to run successive Wednesdays through April 23 (refer to CRN 12073 for registration). The course fee is $99. Instructor Martha Hayes has a master’s degree in music history and performance from the University of Connecticut. She taught strings for Windham Public Schools for 25 years, and is currently the principal violist for the Manchester Symphony Orchestra. She also plays viola in the Manchester String Quartet.
- Vocal Instruction, starting Monday, February 24, from 7 to 8:15 p.m. and running successive Mondays through March 31 (refer to CRN 11632). The course fee is $110. Instructor Don Donegan has taught guitar, harmonica and voice for 30 years, and he is the founder of the Connecticut Songwriters Association (CSA). He also teaches songwriting.
- Playing the Ukulele, which starts Monday, February 24, from 7 to 9 p.m. and runs successive Monday evenings through March 17 (refer to CRN 12108 for registration). The course fee is $65. Instructor James Hammitt also gives lessons in banjo, guitar, mandolin, and violin. He performs as a solo act and with the duo “RJ” in venues throughout Connecticut and New Hampshire.
- Harmonica for Beginners, starting Monday, March 3, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. and running successive Mondays through March 24 (refer to CRN 11631). The course fee is $60. The instructor is Don Donegan.
