MCC Offers Photography Option, Visual Fine Arts Degree for Students Interested in Exploring this Field

MANCHESTER, Conn. (July 23, 2019) – Jobs that incorporate photography skills are among the fastest growing in Connecticut of those requiring an associate degree, according to the Connecticut Department of Labor. MCC has an associate in art degree program that can lead to an entry- or mid-level position in one of these jobs, or enable graduates to continue to a baccalaureate degree at a senior institution.

The Photography Option, Visual Fine Arts associate in art program provides students with fundamentals such as understanding of terminology, concepts and techniques relating to photography; proficiency at digital image capture; editing and output, as well as up-to-date Adobe Photoshop skills; an appreciation of the many vocational and creative applications of the medium; and the ability to make informed and meaningful aesthetic decisions, with an emphasis on critical thinking and problem solving.

Graduates can then find gainful employment in growing fields such as digital image/Photoshop technicians or specialists, photo-studio assistants, studio portrait and school photographers, event and wedding photography assistants, product photographers, real estate photographers and gallery assistants. These are just a few examples.

MCC also offers an 18-credit Photography certificate, which can help students build a working portfolio to enhance employment credentials, and that can also be applied toward completing the associate degree.

Enrollment for the Fall 2019 semester is currently open. MCC is taking applications for new and transferring students, with no application fee. Classes begin August 27.
