MCC Offers Holiday Cuisine and Stress Reduction Courses

Manchester Community College’s Credit-Free programs has courses to help you prepare your holiday menu and learn techniques to de-stress as the season gets underway.

Learn new tricks for classic favorites by taking inspiring cuisine courses with seasoned instructors. The course Thanksgiving Holiday Pies will be held Wednesday, November 5 for one session from 6 to 9 p.m. with instructor Rebecca Brown. Make gluten-free crusts to fill with favorites such as apple crumb and pecans pies as well as the decadent pumpkin cheesecake. Reference CRN 31942 to register. Your next stop for holiday menu planning should be the course Holiday Hors d’Oevres to be held on Thursday, November 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. for one session with instructor Joshua Ogrodowski. Get your party started off right-without the same boring finger foods- by learning to create delicacies such as shrimp fritters, smoked salmon twisters, fig and gorgonzola crepes, and more. The course Holiday Cookies will be held on Wednesday, 12/3 for one session from 6-9 p.m. Reference CRN 31943 to register. The yule log has become a decorative background on your television in recent years but the course Buche de Noel will teach you to build it to perfection–in chocolate! Join instructor Sofia Bilgrami for one Saturday session on December 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to learn the basics and the fun of adding meringue mushrooms and fondant sprigs of holly. In addition, learn skills to reduce holiday stress. The course Reduce Stress and Live a Healthier Life will be held for one session Thursday, November 6 from 7 to 9 p.m. Learn to better understand the effects of stress and steps to remove its causes for a healthier lifestyle. Reference CRN 31936 to register.  Also, Sound Therapy to Relax the Body and Mind, will be held for 4 Thursdays beginning 11/13 from 6-7:30 p.m. with instructor Kay Lani LeBoulluec.  Sound therapy uses singing bowls and the sacred gong while engaging in light yoga and a variety of powerful meditations. Immediate effects can include increased blood circulation, and the healing is known to continue for days after practice, with the potential of decreasing blood pressure, stress, and improving mental focus and clarity.
