MCC Offers Credit-Free Certificate Option to Begin a Career in the Medical Field

Manchester, Conn. (December 31, 2015) –For current or prospective students interested in entering the medical field, earning a certificate to become a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) can provide excellent work experience, income and the opportunity to make valuable contacts to aid in future job searches.

MCC will hold a free info session on campus Thursday, February 4, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. for students interested in learning more about the CNA program. To register for the info session, call the Registrar at 860-512-3232 and reference CRN 11542.

MCC’s division of Continuing Education offers an array of options for career pathways through the allied health programs. Selecting the focus of a CNA can be a great option for students who have aspiration to become health professionals with options to work in hospitals, clinics or long-term care facilities while earning an advanced degree.

“The CNA program combines classroom experience with the practical skills students need to qualify for their first job in the field,” Ann Bonney, director of credit-free programs, explains. “Students will work at a clinical site with patients and an on-site instructor to guide them through the duties they will be expected to perform after earning their certification. Students will feel the boost of confidence needed for success when working with patients through the clinical experience provided in the program.”

At the info session, students can register for the 120-hour course, which will run on Tuesday, February 16 through Saturday, April 30. The courses are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at MCC, from 6 to 9 p.m., with the clinical rotation held on Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Woodlake at Tolland Health Center in Tolland. To register, call 860-512-3232 and reference CRN 11544. For questions, call 860-512-2800. For a full course description, visit the Spring 2016 credit-free catalog.
