MCC Men Win Third Straight; Jones Sores a Pair in 4-2 Road Win

MCC improved to 4-4 (4-1 in Region 21, division play) with a 4-2 win over MassBay CC (3-2) Tuesday afternoon in Wellesley, MA.
Steve German (Coventry) made 15 saves as MCC won its third straight.

Tyler Jones (Vernon) scored his second goal of the game to tie the score at 2-2 before halftime and Mark Grant (Coventry) scored the game winner ten minutes into the second half. Chaz Dasilva (Newington) scored the fourth Cougar goal. Grant, Jones and Edgar Hernandez (Willimantic) each recorded assists.
Jones erased a pair of MassBay leads (1-0 and 2-1) in the first half with his fourth and fifth goals of the season, the first coming on a penalty kick.

MCC hosts Springfield Tech on Thursday at 4PM.

The Cougars played their best game of the season, but Irena Curtain took control of a loose ball at midfield in the final minute of regulation and turned it into the game winner as Springfield Tech (3-5) beat Manchester CC (0-8) 2-1 Tuesday afternoon in Springfield.
Ashley Parke (Woodstock) gave MCC a 1-0 lead five minutes into the game but Emily LaFleur tied it at 1-1 in the 1oth minute. The teams played an even second half, with the goalkeepers taking turns shutting down offensive threats. MCC’s Danielle Hebert (Mansfield) made 16 saves while her counterpart, Amal Al-Mona made stopped 16 shots including two on breakaways late in the game.
“I am immensely proud of their effort today,” MCC head coach Jeremy Wilson said of his team on the bus ride back to Manchester. “They did everything I asked of them, but their progress was not rewarded today.”
The Cougars are idle until next Wednesday (Oct 3) when they visit Holyoke CC for a 4PM game.
