MCC Men Shut Out STCC 6-0 in Home Opener
Manchester, CT (September 10) – The MCC Men’s soccer team turned in its second straight Region XXI shutout Wednesday afternoon, beating Springfield Technical CC 6-0 at the McCormick Complex.
Mariusz Kurzatkowski (Southington) scored two goals and assisted on two others in the one-sided contest. Manchester outshoot its guests 31-8. Kevin Battista (Enfield) scored 7:20 into the game on a passes from Kurzatkowski and Jason Walker (West Haven). Battista returned the favor 13 minutes later, setting up Kurzatkowski for the first of his two goals, giving the Cougars a 2-0 halftime lead.
“We are really starting to come together offensively,” Head Coach Jim Insinga said. “And we are starting to solidify defensively.”
MCC controlled the ball most of the game – “tons of possession and just keeping it simple,” Insinga said. Sophomores Jason Walker (West Haven) and Jemmy Cange (Norwich) were both very strong in the offensive zone and picked up a goal and an assist apiece.
All 26 players on the roster played in the game.
Sophomore Captain Chris Nieto finished out the scoring on a pass from Zeeshawn Maniar. Daniel Boateng had a nice assist on Cange’s goal.
Sophomore Captain Jeff Gregor (Newington) started the game in goal, playing the first 30 minutes of the game before giving way to Hami Kara, who made the only Cougar save of the game. John Ruggiero and Chris Meneses also took part in the shutout while keeping the Cougar net clean in the second half.
