MCC Men Beat Massasoit 3-2 on the Road
BROCKTON, MA (September 13) – The MCC Men’s soccer team passed an early season Region XXI test Saturday afternoon when it beat Massasoit CC 3-2 on the road.
Daniel Boateng (East Hartford) scored on a rebound 25 minutes into the game and Mariusz Kurzatkowski (Southington) gave the Cougars a 2-0 halftime lead when he scored his seventh goal of the year on a breakaway off a Jason Walker (Windsor) pass.
Massasoit (1-3) cut Manchester’s lead to 2-1 when Kyle Estrela scored early in the second half. MCC (3-1) made it 3-1 when freshman midfielder Frank Busumbru (Manchester) scored his first collegiate goal off a corner kick by Walker midway through the second half.
“Frank dropped a bomb, an absolute rocket that bent the back of the net,” MCC Coach Jim Insinga said after his team won its third straight after an 4-3 loss on opening day to Bristol CC August 30th.
Massasoit made it interesting when Paulo Texeira cut the Cougar lead to 3-2 with a goal late in the game.
“It was a close game that went back and forth,” Insinga said. “Those guys (Massasoit) came back strong and caught us on our heels a bit, but we held on.”
Sophomore Goalkeeper Jeff Gregor (Newington) made three first half saves while Hami Kara (Wethersfield) made three in the second half.
MCC hosts Community College of Rhode Island Tuesday afternoon (September 16) for a 3:30pm match at the McCormick Complex.
