MCC Goalkeeper Hami Kara Named NJCAA Player of the Week
Hami Kara was named National Junior College Division III Soccer Player of the Week on September 23rd after leading Manchester Community College to three shut-out victories last week. Aside from his strong play in three MCC wins, Kara assisted on MCC’s second goal in Sept. 19th’s win over Bunker Hill. For the week, he recorded 15 saves and currently boasts a 0.28 goals against average.
Kara is a sophomore captain and has willingly sacrificed playing time in one-side games in favor of developing freshman. Aside from his strong play in three MCC shutout victories, Kara assisted on MCC’s second goal in last Saturday’s (Sept 19) 3-0 win over Bunker Hill. He also started the play that led to the first Cougar goal in that game with a pass to his outside back.
“As a captain, Hami’s leadership role both on and off the field has been outstanding,” MCC Head Coach Jim Insinga said. “Both his quickness in the back and reaction to shots has been amazing. He’s given up just one goal in six games. That speaks for itself.”
This fall, the former Connecticut All-State selection from Wethersfield has allowed just one goal – against Division I Massasoit in a game won by MCC in overtime on September 12th – over 398 minutes for unbeaten MCC (6-0). Kara has 37 saves, holds a 0.29 GAA and has been a major factor in his team’s five shutout victories this season. Ranked #3 in the latest NJCAA Division III poll, MCC has given up just one goal over its first six games while scoring 18.
