MCC Foundation President Received Merit Award for Commitment and Service
Manchester, CT – (May 10, 2007) . . . Gene S. Mazur, president of the Manchester Community College Foundation, will receive the Board of Trustees’ Merit Award for his commitment, service and leadership to Manchester Community College at the 43rd annual Commencement Ceremony on Thursday, May 24.
The Board of Trustees’ Merit Award was created in 1990 to recognize outstanding service and support from community members or groups on behalf of an individual community college, the system of Connecticut Community Colleges, or the cause of community college education in general.
Mazur has been an active member of the Board of Directors for the Manchester Community College Foundation since 1998, and has served as president since 2004. He was instrumental in the growth of the Foundation Board and has served as a role model, leader and advocate for the organization in the community. Mazur had been influential in achieving the Foundation’s annual goals and is very involved in the success of the organization’s premiere event, An Evening of Wine Fines.

Mazur lives in Manchester and is the human resources director for the Hartford Courant. He began his career at the Courant in 1992, as the employee relations manager. Prior to the Courant, Mazur was the assistant treasurer and director of human resources for David T. Chase Enterprises in Hartford. From 1985 to 1990, Mazur was a commercial lending officer, vice president and marketing research director for the Connecticut Bank and Trust Company/Bank of New England, and from 1980 to 1985, he was an assistant manager and analyst with the Connecticut General Insurance Company.
He holds a bachelor of science degree in finance and marketing from the State University of New York in Buffalo, and a master in business administration from the University of Connecticut. Mazur also served in the Signal Corps of the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
