MCC Foundation Extends Open Invitation to 2018 “Hall of Fame” Donor Appreciation Brunch Honoring Distinguished Community Members, February 11

MANCHESTER, Conn. (January 16, 2018) – Supporters of Manchester Community College are invited to join MCC Foundation in recognizing distinguished members of the community with the 2018 “Hall of Fame” awards. Honorees will be recognized at the 10th annual donor appreciation brunch Sunday, February 11, starting at noon at A Villa Louisa in Bolton, Conn. The snow date is Sunday, February 18.

Each year MCC Foundation bestows its Extraordinary Volunteer Service and Investor of the Year awards on individuals or groups who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to Manchester Community College.  Reservations for the brunch are required. For more information and to register, visit www.manchestercc.edu/hall-of-fame, or call 860-512-2903. The cost is $25 per person or $250 for a table for 10.

The Extraordinary Volunteer Service award goes to MCC Tutor Terrence Hoye and Assistant Professor and Criminal Justice Department Chair Kathryn Kleis; and the Investor of the Year is United Bank Foundation Connecticut, with special recognition to Adam Jeamel, regional president, United Bank.

Led by Jeamel, of Wethersfield, and his executive team, United Bank Foundation Connecticut has been a supporter of Manchester Community College students and programs for years, providing funding to purchase equipment for the manufacturing lab, as well as scholarships. Jeamel and his team also led United Bank Foundation Connecticut in serving as presenting sponsor of Evening of Fine Wines two years in a row, including last year’s 25th event. In total, they helped raise more than $400,000 through this signature event. In addition, Eric Newell, chief financial officer and treasurer, United Financial Bancorp, Inc., is an MCC Foundation board member. The organization has also been instrumental in facilitating financial literacy workshops for MCC students.

Hoye, of Glastonbury, is a volunteer tutor in the college’s Academic Support Center. After retiring from a career in engineering in 2012, he has offered hundreds of hours of his time working with students to improve academic writing. He is regarded by students and colleagues alike as professional, diligent and compassionate, and he has mentored many MCC students through the transfer process to baccalaureate institutions. In addition to volunteering at MCC, Hoye works with local elementary school students as a chess club advisor, teaching children the value of problem solving, creativity and critical thinking.

Kleis, of Glastonbury, is being recognized not only because of her dedication to MCC students as department chair, teacher and academic advisor, as well as faculty advisor to the Criminal Justice Club, but also for her exemplary community activism. Among many other volunteer activities and board positions she holds, Kleis donates her time to managing the annual “Believe 208 Run for the Bravest and Finest 5K Road Race,” whose proceeds benefit first responders. She founded the event and has personally provided support to the family of the late Paul Buchanan, an East Hartford police officer in whose memory the race is run.

“Our annual Hall of Fame brunch recognizes our volunteers and partners who help keep the relationship between the college and our community alive and relevant,” said Gena Glickman, president of MCC. “I am very pleased to welcome United Bank Foundation Connecticut led by Adam Jeamel and our own Assistant Professor Katy Kleis and Tutor Terrence Hoye into this prestigious group of supporters of our mission.”
