MCC Faculty and Students Honored by the Connecticut Chefs Association
Manchester, Conn., – (April 8, 2008) …The Connecticut Chefs Association recently honored three MCC faculty members for their outstanding service to the culinary profession, and their involvement in the community. In addition, a team of student chefs, enrolled in MCC’s culinary arts competition course, walked away with top honors at the annual Connecticut Chefs American Culinary Federation (ACF) competition held in March.
The Connecticut Chefs Association recognized associate professor Linda Coons of West Hartford as Chef of the Year, and professor Sandra Jenkins of Tolland as Member of the Year. Adjunct faculty member Marc Hussey of West Hartford, received the Herbert Zimmerman Leadership Award.
The following students received awards at the annual Connecticut Chefs American Culinary Federation (ACF) competition:
Christine M. McVey of Eastford received a Gold Medal for novelty cake, the G. Nagir Award for the most novel piece in show, and the CT Chefs Second Place Ribbon for Cake with Fondant and Gumpaste Achievement Award.
Elizabeth Garrett Bunker of Glastonbury received the ACF Silver Medal Judges Special Award and Best Overall Student Piece for the cold hors d’oeuvre selection.
Theresa Olchanowski of New Britain was awarded an ACF Bronze Medal for the cold hors d’oeuvre selection and the ACF Bronze medal and Student Achievement Award for chocolate centerpiece.
Marc S. Cutler of Avon was awarded an ACF Bronze Medal for the five-course gastronomique tasting menu.
Brendan Chapman of Manchester received the CT Chefs Bronze Medal for dessert platter.
Also, adjunct faculty member Marc Hussey, was awarded a Silver Medal for seafood platter and the ACF Bronze Medal Trophy Citation Award and Achievement Award for appetizer selection.
