MCC Expected to Receive More Than $900,000 for Campus Safety and Improvements

Manchester, Conn., -June 28, 2010..Governor M. Jodi Rell announced that $913,735 to make upgrades for Manchester Community College (MCC) is expected to be approved when the State Bond Commission meets July 13.

The funds will be put toward the design of a new fire alarm system at the Lowe Building and for the design of parking lot repairs. The parking lot will receive a total overhaul, with its existing 685 spaces renovated and 225 new spaces created. Improvements will also be made to area landscaping, drainage and lighting.

“We are so proud of how far MCC has come over such a short time, and these funds will keep that momentum going.” Governor Rell said. “The project addresses the safety of students and staff and will make campus improvements that a growing institution needs.”

“We do a lot with less and less. We have been very fortunate, even in these economic times, to have stable and growing programs and initiatives,” stated Gena Glickman, president of Manchester Community College. “We are grateful for the support the Governor and state legislators have given our college and the entire Connecticut Community College system.”

“At MCC and at all of our community colleges, we are creating a new and challenging educational environment. Our community colleges are true career-changers and that was clearly evident during this economic downturn. They offer a quality, affordable education and can adapt quickly to changing workforce needs,” the Governor said. “These investments are investments in future jobs.”

The college is also home to Great Path Academy, an inter-district middle college high school for students in grades 10, 11 and 12. When it opened in 2009, the $32 million Great Path Academy at MCC was the first public high school to be constructed on a college campus in Connecticut.
