MCC Dedicates Allied Health Lab in Honor of Thulin Family
Robert and JoAnn Thulin, residents of Manchester for 57 years, were honored for their generous donation of $50,000 to support MCC’s allied health program. The college’s occupational therapy lab in the Learning Resource Center (B125) was named at a dedication ceremony attended by the Thulins, invited guests and Manchester Community College Foundation board and capital campaign committee members, led by board president and campaign chair Michael B. Lynch Jr.
“The funds will be used for support and expansion of allied health programs,” Lynch said at the dedication ceremony. “We thank the Thulins for seeing what a tremendous asset MCC is to our community.”
Robert and JoAnn Thulin have demonstrated their commitment to the Manchester area through their involvement with several local organizations. As trustees of the South United Methodist Church, Bob and JoAnn Thulin are heavily involved in helping fundraise for capital projects. JoAnn Thulin has also served as a member of the MCC Foundation board since 2009.
JoAnn Thulin teaches for Manchester Community College through the division of Continuing Education in its Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certificate program. Her dedication to the allied health profession spans more than 40 years and includes the areas of occupational health, nursing home and home care, and hospital and school nursing. She received her RN degree from Northwestern Hospital School of Nursing and her APRN degree from Hartford Hospital School of Adult Medicine Nurse Practitioners.
“The passion for education has always been in me,” JoAnn Thulin said at the dedication ceremony. “Teaching at MCC has been a wonderful experience that has allowed me to meet students from all walks of life. All in all it has been a fascinating and interesting time, and I have appreciated serving on the board.”
Bob Thulin added, “MCC has a strong, positive influence on the whole region. We are pleased to be able to support scholarships and other programs, especially when we see the faces of the students these funds are supporting.”
The dedication ceremony, ribbon cutting and unveiling of a plaque bearing the Thulin name were followed by a reception in Fireside Commons inside the college library.
Robert and JoAnn Thulin are also honored as members of the President’s Circle on the college’s recently installed Donor Wall displayed in the Student Services Center, outside the campus bookstore.
