MCC Credit-Free Programs Offers Certified Nurse Aide Program

Manchester, Conn. (May 24, 2017) – Manchester Community College’s Continuing Education division will offer a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certification preparation course as part of its Summer 2017 catalog. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to sit for the Connecticut state licensing examination, which when passed qualifies the student to be certified.

The course runs June 5 through July 13, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday. The fee is $999. Clinical experience for this course will be located at a nursing facility in Glastonbury.

Students in healthcare fields often enroll in a Certified Nurse Aide course to obtain additional clinical experience. This course is of particular interest to those who wish to work in a nursing home, hospital or home health care setting.

A Certified Nurse Aide is a valuable member of the healthcare team who provides basic care to patients and assists them with activities of daily living. This important care includes, but is not limited to, observing patients’ conditions, recording vital signs, and providing help with dressing, grooming, exercising and feeding.

JoAnn Thulin, A.P.R.N, the instructor of this hands-on course, has more than 20 years of experience as a long-term care director, critical care nurse and corporate health care nurse.

CNA is a growing field with flexible hours and shift differentials that offers an excellent gateway into the medical field via hands-on experience with patients. According to the CT Department of Labor, the 2016 average hourly wage for nursing assistants was $15.63 an hour.
