MCC Credit-Free Programs Helps Students Improve Summer Fitness Regimens
The so-called lazy-hazy days of summer are finally upon us, but it’s really a time for getting outside and getting more active. Manchester Community College’s Credit-Free Programs Summer catalog offers a number of courses designed to get people out of their hammocks.
Fitness and Recreation courses run all summer and upcoming offerings include something for everyone. There is still time to register. Here are just a few ideas:
Disc Golf meets two successive Thursdays and one Saturday beginning July 25 – One of the fastest growing sports today. There are now more than 3,000 disc golf courses worldwide, and 17 right here in Connecticut. The sport combines the simple act of tossing a Frisbee with the challenges of increasing power while maintaining accuracy. Thursday classes meet from 6 to 8 p.m. on the college campus; Saturday, August 3, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in Manchester’s Wickham Park (refer to CRN 20849 for registration). The course fee is $60, plus $30 for materials.
Advance Weight Training Techniques for Personal Fitness Trainers will be offered Tuesday, July 30 – Trainers can expand their weight training and program design skills for improved results with clients. The course is taught by staff from the World Instructor Training School (W.I.T.S.) and is held on the MCC campus from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. (refer to CRN 20736 for registration). Course fee is $70.
Also offered is Functional Strength, which meets four successive Wednesdays beginning July 31, from 3 to 4 p.m. This special weekday afternoon course is for all fitness levels. Students will focus on developing strength, flexibility, endurance and agility in a way that will carry over into daily activities (refer to CRN 20795 for registration). Course fee is $45.
Staying out of the sun? Ballroom Dancing I begins July 24, and runs four successive Wednesdays, from 6 to 7:15 p.m. Anyone can learn the fox trot, the waltz, and some swing and jitterbug steps in this fun and relaxed course, which is also perfect for engaged couples and their parents—learn to dance for your summer wedding. No experience or partner is required (refer to CRN 20799 for registration). Course fee is $70 per person.
