MCC Continuing Ed Enhances Credit-Free Program with New Instructor, Classes
Manchester Community College’s Continuing Education division welcomes new instructor Rosemary Feehan-Huff to enhance its Noon Institute and English as a Second Language credit-free course offerings. Feehan-Huff will be leading a Noon Institute session entitled, “Discovering the Haiku” on Friday, November 14, from noon to 1:30 p.m. For a course fee of just $5, Noon Institute participants can learn about a variety of interesting topics during their Friday lunch hours. In the upcoming session led by Feehan-Huff, they will learn about the popular Japanese art form and leave with their own haiku, created individually or in groups with the guidance of seasoned teacher Feehan-Huff. Her interest in teaching haiku comes from her love for representing international cultures in her curriculum for students of all ages.
“The Noon Institute program is an opportunity for me to do what I love and have spent my career doing-teaching adults,” Feehan-Huff said. ” I am thrilled to join the talented group of instructors at Manchester Community College’s Continuing Education division. For adults in the community, the Noon Institute program is an excellent way to learn something new — which is important at any age!”
Feehan-Huff also has an extensive background as an English as a Second Language teacher, having worked with refugee and immigrant students from all over the world, who have settled in the New Britain, Conn., area. She is a graduate of Central Connecticut State University, earning a bachelor of arts degree in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) and a master of science in bilingual, cultural and urban education. Feehan-Huff also earned a sixth year certification in bilingual multicultural education from UConn. Adults seeking English as a Second Language courses can register for the new course ”Improve Your Communication and Career Search Skills with Ease” to be held for seven Thursday session beginning October 23 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The course, developed by Feehan-Huff, targets the intermediate ESL student, focusing on communication in the workplace, personal relationships and social situations. The course will align with the instructor’s ultimate goal, to empower adult ESL students to become life- long learners. Students will have the opportunity to develop skills through in-class mock interviews, resume writing, and practice completing job applications.

In addition, MCC ESL credit courses include listening/speaking and reading/writing sequences and carry four credits each. MCC offers the non-English speaker four levels of English classes to improve language proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing. Courses will prepare ESL students for academic courses in any subject, and the tutoring staff supplements and complements the four-level curriculum.
