MCC Collaborates with Department of Environmental Protection and Connecticut Clean Energy Fund to Provide Internships for Students

Manchester, CT-(June 7, 2011)…On Monday, June 20, Manchester Community College will host the Connecticut Municipal Climate Network Workshop to showcase the collaboration in the development of student internships between the Department of Environmental Protection, Connecticut Clean Energy Fund and municipalities in the regions served by Manchester Community College and Three Rivers Community College. At the June 20th workshop students will have the opportunity to discuss the projects they worked on and their experiences working with town officials on green initiatives.

The internships were designed as a pilot, to assist municipalities in the Manchester Community College and Three Rivers Community College regions. These municipalities were developing green/energy projects but needed knowledgeable man power to execute them. The Department of Environmental Protection solicited the towns, funding was received from the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund and Manchester Community College and Three Rivers Community College provided the students. The initial success of the project offered the opportunity to broaden the service area. In addition to MCC and TRCC, Gateway, Naugatuck and Norwalk Community Colleges have joined this unique and successful training opportunity.
