MCC Appoints Academic Dean and Director of Academic Support Center
Manchester, CT – (June 30, 2009) . . . Manchester Community College is pleased to announce Dr. Joanne Russell, of Manchester, as the appointed dean of Academic Affairs. Dr. Russell was formerly the director of the Liberal Arts division at MCC and replaces Dr. Alice Savage, who is retiring after eight years of service at MCC.
Dr. Russell is a graduate of the University of Connecticut and holds a bachelor of science degree in Chemistry and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry. She joined MCC in 1995 as an adjunct faculty member and was hired in 1999 as a full-time instructor of biological sciences. Dr. Russell assumed the role of co-chair of the Science Department from 2001 to 2005, and was appointed to the position of Division Director in 2006. She is the co-director of the bridge program with East Hartford High School; and is presently the director on the board of the Manchester Arts Commission. She also serves as a member of the governing board of Great Path Academy, the middle college high school at MCC.
Brian Cleary, of Glastonbury, has recently been appointed director of the Academic Support Center (ASC). The ASC is a place for students to receive support in various academic areas. Tutoring and other support services are available for students in areas including math, science, English and writing.
Cleary was formerly a counselor for MCC and an academic advisor for Goodwin College in East Hartford. He holds a master of arts degree in Philosophy from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and a bachelor of arts degree in Philosophy from Hamilton College in Clinton, New York.
