MCC Announces Teleconference to Join Hazardous Mitigation Plan Public Forum
In an effort to proactively identify hazards and vulnerabilities and the steps that can be taken to reduce these risks, the Connecticut State Colleges & Universities (CSCU) recently began to develop a Multi-Campus Hazard Mitigation Plan. This plan will include CSCU’s four state universities, 12 community colleges and Charter Oak State College. The purpose of this Hazard Mitigation Plan is to assist the campuses in identifying and reducing risks from natural hazards, identifying actions that can be taken to prevent damage to property and loss of life, and prioritizing funding for mitigation efforts.
A public forum to discuss the development of the plan will be held February 25 at 4 p.m. MCC will participate in this forum, hosted by Eastern Connecticut State University and held on its Willimantic campus, through a teleconference from the MCC campus. Participants in this teleconference, which will be held in room A142 in the Learning Resource Center, will be able to hear audio and see slides from a presentation about work completed to date.
There will also be information available about actions and projects that can be undertaken to reduce key risks and an opportunity for the public to ask questions during the teleconference.
While natural disasters cannot be prevented from occurring, the continued implementation of mitigation strategies identified in the plan will make CSCU campuses more sustainable and disaster-resilient.
This project is being funded by a grant allocated by the Connecticut Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security and funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
