MCC Announces Spring 2015 Scholarship Recipients

The Manchester Community College Foundation awarded a total of more than $135,000 in scholarship money to some 200 students for the spring 2015 semester.

The scholarship presentation was held Thursday evening, December 18, 2014, in the SBM Charitable Foundation Building auditorium. A reception for the recipients and their families followed in the building’s atrium.

First-year student Olga Rivera, of East Hartford, and a recipient of the NewAlliance Foundation Scholarship, spoke at the presentation ceremony and thanked donors. She aspires to become a teacher, and she stressed the fact that contributions to scholarship funds are vital to supporting students so they can continue their education.

“I can honestly say that being here at MCC has given me the push and drive that I needed to continue moving forward and work hard towards my career,” she told attendees. “This scholarship will not only help me pay for my education but it will allow me to share my experiences with my own students once I graduate.”

Rivera added, “I as well as all of the students receiving these awards would like to say thank you. Thank you to all of the donors that have made it possible for us to continue moving forward not only in our education but in our lives.”

MCC Foundation gives hundreds of deserving students the opportunity to achieve their academic dreams through the scholarship program. In addition, the Foundation supports college programs.
