MCC Announces Salutatorian and Valedictorian for the Class of 2016
Manchester, Conn. (May 26, 2016) – Manchester Community College introduced the Class of 2016 valedictorian and salutatorian, Alison Salamatian and Hayley McMahon, respectively, at the 26th annual MCC Academic Awards Ceremony last night, May 25, in the SBM Charitable Foundation Auditorium.
Valedictorian Salamatian, of Manchester, was homeschooled from first grade through high school. She reentered the public classroom when she came to MCC. She will graduate with an associate in science degree in liberal arts. Her plan is to transfer to UConn in the fall, where she’ll pursue a bachelor of science degree in chemistry.
Salutatorian McMahon, of East Hartford, is a graduate of the Pathways to Technology Magnet School. She started her MCC career in 2014. McMahon overcame academic challenges from her pre-college days to excel in higher education. She will be graduating with an associate in science degree in liberal arts and will continue in the fall at UConn where she will major in ecology and evolutionary biology.
The 52nd Commencement Exercises will take place tonight, May 26, 2016, at 5:30 p.m. at the Bicentennial Band Shell on the campus lawn. The Commencement Speaker will be New York City-based author Amanda Filipacchi, who also will receive an associate degree in humane letters, honoris causa.
