MCC Announces Express Registration Period
Manchester, CT – July 12, 2002 . . . The next three weeks at Manchester Community College (MCC) have been designated “Express Weeks @ MCC.” Registration is in full swing and the college will be offering assessment testing appointments and advising sessions every weekday through July 31. The daily testing and advising appointments will give more prospective students the opportunity to accelerate the registration process and schedule classes for the Fall 2012 semester.
Classes begin August 29 and there is still time for area residents to get ready for a new job, improve their skills or lay the groundwork for transfer to a baccalaureate institution. Special support programs can help students improve their employability, get a degree or certificate, or even finish a degree already started.
Future students who have not yet applied to the college may do so online through August 15 at Admission & Aid. A $20 application fee, proof of high school graduation (or GED) and the specified immunizations are all that is required.
Once accepted, students are required to take math and English placement tests before registering, or demonstrate their abilities in these areas via either SAT scores or previous coursework.
Students that are fully exempt from testing can proceed immediately to schedule an appointment for a new student seminar at the Advising and Counseling Center by visiting New Student Orientation SAT scores of 450+ in the critical reading or writing sections and/or 500+ in math, as well as previous college coursework in English/math, may exempt students from the placement tests.
Students who believe they may have partial exemptions should schedule a testing appointment and bring their documentation satisfying these criteria directly with them. All other can visit Assessment Testing to set up a time to come to campus for the assessment test. A photo ID and previously assigned MCC student ID number are required.
Once students have taken the assessment test or have been exempted, they should schedule a new student seminar appointment in which they will choose their courses for the fall: New Student Orientation.
Returning students may seek assistance with course selection during walk-in advising sessions at the Advising and Counseling Center. During Express Weeks @ MCC, the hours are: Mondays, 9 a.m.–12 noon; Tuesdays, 1 p.m.-4 p.m.; Wednesdays, 9 a.m.-12 noon; and Thursdays, 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Students can also contact the Advising and Counseling Center at 860-512-3320 to schedule an appointment.
Students interested in transferring to MCC must have a transcript evaluation completed by the college Admissions Office prior to meeting with an advisor in the Advising and Counseling Center. The Admissions Office can be reached at 860-512-3210.
Classes are filling quickly at the college but there is still time for new, returning and transfer students to build a schedule of courses for Fall 2012 schedule. MCC’s committed and knowledgeable staff is dedicated to helping students achieve their educational goals.
