MCC Announces Excellence in Service and Teaching Awards
Manchester, Conn. (June 23, 2016) – Manchester Community College bestowed its annual Excellence in Service and Excellence in Teaching Awards on Media Technician Brian Lombardo ’95 and Associate Professor Carolina Flores, D.M.A.
These MCC awards annually recognize and honor employees who demonstrate excellence as judged by their peers. All employees of the college are eligible for one award or the other. Nominations may come from students, colleagues, supervisors, alumni or other community members. The awards are presented to recipients by MCC President Gena Glickman.
Lombardo, of Glastonbury, was nominated for his dedication and contributions to the best interests of MCC. Cited for always thinking about the “big picture,” he works as staff photographer among other key duties for the Marketing and Public Relations department. He was recognized for his concern for the college and its success, his commitment to the success of his co-workers and their endeavors, and his commitment to the team that is responsible for telling the college’s story to MCC’s varied communities. Lombardo joined the staff of MCC in 1993 and subsequently received an associate of science degree in communications. In addition to his work at MCC, he serves the local community as a Glastonbury volunteer firefighter.
Dr. Flores, of Meriden, is known for inspiring students to explore their musical talent and offering superb academic support. Nominated by one of her students, she was recognized as a faculty advisor who wants students to succeed individually and as a group, and for her enthusiasm. She formerly taught music at the Hartt School, the comprehensive performing arts conservatory of the University of Hartford, and directed its women’s vocal ensemble, Camerata. She was also the concert and chamber choir director at Norte Dame High School in West Haven. Flores is a graduate of the Hartt School, with a doctor of musical arts degree in choral conducting. She also holds a master of music degree from Manhattan School of Music, a master of musical arts degree from the Royal Superior Conservatory of Music in Madrid, and a bachelor of musical arts from Superior Conservatory of Music in Zaragoza, Spain.
