Massasoit Scores Late Goal; Leaves With 2-1 Victory

MANCHESTER – Tatiena Veiga broke a 1-1 tie in the 79th minute to lift Massasoit CC (5-6-1) to a 2-1 victory over Manchester CC (4-6-1) in Region 21, Division III action Monday afternoon. All three goals were scored in a nine minute span in the second half after Massasoit’s Jamie Ledin broke a 0-0 tie in the 70th minute. MCC’s Michelle Magora (Enfield) tied the game with a header from inside the six-yard box with an assist from Liz Nahonrey (Newington) five minutes later.

Michelle Kerr (Rockville) made 10 saves for the Cougars in the wide open game while Samantha Ackerson made seven for the Warriors.

Manchester travels to Springfield Tech Wednesday for a 4 PM game that will determine its playoff fate. The Cougars need to win that game to qualify for the Region 21 tournamnet, which will be held October 23-24 in Holyoke.
