Manchester Community College Offers 21st Century Manufacturing Technology
Manchester, CT – November 29, 2011…For more than a decade, MCC has developed academic and training programs that are responsive to the manufacturing needs of the region, with particular emphasis on those credit and non-credit training and retraining programs that provide direct entrance into the workforce.
Connecticut has long been a hub of precision manufacturing and a skilled workforce is needed by companies in the state. Connecticut’s manufactures expect their workforce to grow 3-6 percent over the next five years and nearly a third plan to hire full time employees by 2012. Many high-paying manufacturing jobs go unfilled because there is a shortage of workers who have the necessary skills to fill the jobs. With a median age over 40, Connecticut’s manufacturing workforce is experiencing the effects of an aging population and is at a critical juncture.
To address this need, MCC offers a mix of credit and non-credit programs to help prepare students for a successful career in Manufacturing Technology. The college’s non-credit programs are modular and stackable, and are offered multiple times during the year, while the credit courses follow the traditional semester calendar. By partnering with local manufacturers and other industry leaders, MCC can ensure students that its programs are relevant and that they are filling today’s manufacturing needs.
Both traditional and state-of-the art methods are taught, and students have access to computerized classrooms with the most current manufacturing software, as well as a well-equipped machine lab.
