Manchester CC’s Giuseppe Panajia Named To NJCAA All-New England First Team
Five Others Cited After Cougars Finish Season In Region 21 Championship Game
Manchester CC men’s soccer captain Giuseppe Panajia (Glastonbury) was named to the All-New England first team for a second consecutive year after leading the Cougars with 11 goals and five assists (27 points).
Sophomore Tony Scotti (Bristol) and freshman Eric Trazinski (East Granby) were also named to the All-New England first team. Sophomores Bryant Bermudez (East Hartford) and Tony Ettorre (Plainville) were second team selections and freshman Dan Frank (Lebanon) received an Honorable Mention.
The Cougars made their eighth consecutive trip to the Region 21, Division III championship game this fall and finished the season 11-6-2 under 11th year head coach Jim Insinga (126-67-11).
The 2010 season ended with a 6-2 loss to Bunker Hill CC in the championship game at Dilboy Stadium in Somerville, MA on October 31. MCC advanced to the final on penalty kicks after a 0-0 tie through two overtimes against MassBay CC the previous day.
Scotti was a captain and played in all 38 Cougar games over two seasons, scoring three goals and assisting on seven others while holding down a key spot in the midfield. Trazinski was second in scoring with nine goals and four assists (22 points) while Bermudez (2G, 8A over two seasons) anchored the defensive backfield. Trazinski scored three game-winning goals between September 13 and 18, including a pair of 1-0 road victories.
Ettorre, who was also a captain, made 98 over 17 games with three shutouts while compiling a 0.958 Goals Against Average. Frank started all 19 games for the Cougars as a defensive back.
