Manchester CC Gains Split with Monroe College

MANCHESTER – Chris Rivera (New Britain) hit a two-run double in the bottom of the fifth as Manchester Community College (1-3) beat Monroe College 3-2 to gain a split Saturday afternoon at Cheney Tech. Monroe (2-1) scored three runs in the top of the seventh to break a scoreless tie to beat MCC 3-0 in the first game.

The doubleheader served as the home opener for the Cougars. who dropped a twinbill to Mercer County CC last Saturday (March 5)in Edison.

Tyler Kapushinski (New Britain) was the winning pitcher for the Cougars. In the first game, the sophomore lefty threw one pitch and left the bases loaded in the seventh. In the nightcap, he threw two pitches to strand a pair of Monroe runners in the fifth and picked up his fourth career victory. Mike Methot (Bristol) earned the save while pitching a scoreless seventh.

The Cougars host Sullivan County CC Sunday at noon at Cheney Tech.
