MCC Foundation has named Michael B. Lynch Jr. to serve as chair and William J. McGurk to serve as vice chair of the Foundation’s first-ever capital campaign. The campaign’s goal is to raise $14 million.

Lynch, president of Manchester-based Lynch Toyota; and McGurk, retired president and chief executive officer of Vernon-based Rockville Bank (now United Bank) will lead a campaign committee in identifying potential investors and asking for their partnership in helping the college realize its vision. They will work closely with the MCC Foundation’s board of directors to ensure that the campaign remains on track.

In addition, they will serve as the public voice for the campaign, providing information and updates on progress.

Lynch, a long-time resident of the town of Manchester, has been an MCC Foundation board member for eight years and has served as treasurer for four years. He is also the grandson of Matthew Moriarty, a founder of MCC. In addition to operating Lynch Toyota, he serves as a board member of Connecticut Toyota Dealers, is a past member of the Manchester Jaycees, a former board member of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce, and past chairman of the Connecticut Automotive Retailer Association and the Greater Hartford Automobile Dealers Association. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Niagara University.

“I look forward to helping to make a positive impact for the students of MCC,” Lynch said. “It is very rewarding to see the sincere student appreciation for what the MCC Foundation does, and I am honored to be able to contribute to that mission.”

McGurk was appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Connecticut Community College system in 2005 and serves on the current Board of Regents for Higher Education. He is past president of the Connecticut Community Bankers Association and served as a member of the board of directors of the Eastern Connecticut Health Network, where he is currently a corporator. His service to Manchester Community College is extensive. He served on the MCC Foundation board, was its treasurer from 1993 to 1999, and is now MCC Foundation’s first and only emeritus member. In 2002 and 2007 he served as honorary chair of Evening of Fine Wines, the premier fundraising event of the MCC Foundation.

“The college’s 50-year history makes it clear that there is a solid return on investment to the community,” McGurk said. “Going forward, the support for students will be even more crucial to MCC’s success, and I look forward to helping the college provide that support as MCC begins its next 50 years.”
