Lauren Alvarez Records a Career-High Four Goals as MCC Remains Undefeated at Home

MANCHESTER, Conn. (Sept. 16) – Freshman forward Lauren Alvarez (GLASTONBURY) had a career-high four goals as the Manchester Community College women’s soccer team remained undefeated at home with a 7-0 win over Hesser College on Sunday afternoon at on-campus McCormick Athletic Complex.

The Cougars (3-3 overall) have won their three homes games this season, outscoring their opponents 19-0. MCC defeated Bunker Hill Community College 6-0 in its home opener on Sept. 8 and Dean College 6-0 on Sept. 15.

Alvarez scored Manchester Community College’s first four goals on a 5-yard shot to the right side of the net (3:50), a 3-yard, waist-high shot to the right side (6:52); a high, 20-yard shot to the middle (10:30) and a 10-yard shot to the lower left (35:10). She has team highs with 10 goals and 21 points in six games.

Since program re-inception in 2004, Cherie St. Germain is the only player to score more goals in a single season (11) than Alvarez. BonnieLynn Zannoni recorded 10 goals in both 2004 and 2006.

Manchester Community College freshman back Julia Connor (ELLINGTON) and freshman midfielder Amy Griswold (ELLINGTON) each scored their first collegiate goal. Connor placed a penalty kick into the upper left corner at 35:20 and Griswold made a 40-yard, waist-high shot to the right corner (50:20). Griswold assisted on Alvarez’s first and third goals.

MCC sophomore midfielder Seana Pollard (GLASTONBURY) received a cross from freshman back Amber McCurry (EAST WINDSOR) and made a 14-yard shot to the lower left at 38:00. It was McCurry’s first collegiate assist.

Manchester Community College freshman goalkeepers Nicole Morehouse (TOLLAND) and Kyle Roncaioli (WEST HARTFORD) combined on their third shutout of the season. Morehouse and Roncaioli each recorded one save in 45 minutes of action.

Melissa Coombs made 20 saves for Hesser College (1-3).

The Cougars host Briarwood College in a 4 p.m. game Thursday at on-campus McCormick Athletic Complex.
