Manchester, Connecticut (May 2, 2012)…Jesse Ryan Parrott, a Manchester Community College student, was among the twenty-one students honored in April by the Connecticut General Assembly during the 15th Annual College Academic Day celebration at the State Capitol Building. Students are selected by their school leaders based on merit and scholastic achievement and extra-curricular involvement. According to one of the event’s sponsors, State Representative Richard Roy (119th District), “Academic Day is a time to shine a light on the message that these student honorees will be Connecticut’s future leaders.”

Jesse, whose hometown is Manchester and is now living in Hartford, was a high school drop-out and told he would never make it in college. He is now a successful student-leader who will graduate in May 2013 with a Liberal Arts and Science associate degree. He is active in student government, the incoming regional president of Phi Theta Kappa (the international honor society recognizing academic achievement of associate degree students), a MCC Foundation scholarship recipient and a member of the Connecticut National Guards. Jesse’s future plans include graduate school and a career in international relations. In Jesse’s own words, “My MCC education has been the key to changing my life”.

Students of any age who possess the desire to pursue higher education are welcome at Manchester Community College. MCC is proud of its academic excellence, new facilities, flexible schedules, small classes, low tuition and faculty with both academic and “real world” credentials. The College offers over 60 programs, transfer options, financial aid and scholarships, as well as access to baccalaureate degrees through guaranteed admissions programs with several universities. MCC is situated on a park-like campus and is easily accessible from I-84.
