Jackson and Chancey Named NJCAA Division III All-Americans
MANCHESTER, Conn. – Sophomore forward Colin Jackson (HARTFORD) has been named a 2005 first-team National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III Men’s Soccer All-American and freshman midfielder Lamar Chancey (MERIDEN) a second-team selection.
“This is great for Colin, Lamar and MCC soccer,” sixth-year MCC coach Jim Insinga said. “They represented our program well and propelled us into the NJCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Tournament quarterfinals.
“Colin scored key goals in important games throughout the year. He exhibited good size, tremendous skill and breakaway speed. Lamar was a savvy midfielder with outstanding skills and vision. He basically did it all in the midfield and the back.”
Jackson, the NJCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for Aug. 28-Sept. 3, had six game-winning goals in 2005. He became the school’s single-season points leader with a three-goal performance against Bunker Hill Community College in the NJCAA Division III Region XXI championship on Nov. 5.
Jackson recorded 56 points this season (23 goals, 10 assists), one more than 2002 NJCAA All-American and Eastern Connecticut State University senior forward Fotis Anastasiou (a single-season record 26 goals, 3 assists). He finished second on the career points list (70), three points behind 2004 NJCAA All-American and Southern Connecticut State University junior forward Darren Foster (73). Jackson totaled 27 career goals (third on the all-time list) and 16 assists.
Chancey had 43 points, 13 behind Jackson. He recorded 11 goals and a school single-season and career record 21 assists. He had a six-game goal scoring streak early in the season.
This is the first time MCC has had two All-Americans in one season under Insigna. He has coached four All-Americans since 2000.
The 2005 Cougars (10-6-1 overall, 6-0 Division III Region XXI), ranked No. 12 in the final NJCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Poll, won their second straight NJCAA Division III Region XXI Men’s Soccer Tournament title with a 3-0 win over Bunker Hill Community College on Nov. 5. Manchester Community College also reached its second consecutive NJCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Tournament quarterfinal game, losing to No. 6 Borough of Manhattan Community College 5-1 at Pier 40 in New York, N.Y., on Nov. 8.
